Belize Christian Ministry History

The vision for Belize Christian Ministries was birthed in 1990 while Charlie and Judy Williams were on furlough in Southaven, Mississippi. God gave them a vision for ministry in Belize that would include medical, dental, housing assistance, and evangelism through Bible Schools and revivals.

When Charlie, Judy, and their boys returned to Belize, God further revealed a piece of land to be the ministry center. After several years of carrying out the vision, and seeing some fruit, but feeling an unrest, Charlie went on a prayer retreat seeking the Lord and listening for direction. When he returned from this time of seeking the Lord, Charlie told Judy that he believed God was telling them to start a Christian school in Belmopan. The enormity of this task caused them to take a deep breath.

In the months that followed, they found others who shared the vision and burden: Claire Joya, a former Peace Corps volunteer to Belize and Jeff and Fabian Keily, missionaries to Belize from Australia. The five of them met often to pray and seek God's guidance in every detail of the school. He is faithful. Though they had many more questions than answers, they continued toward the goal. Time after time they saw God provide - often in ways that so clearly showed His hand.

In September, 1993, Belize Christian Academy opened with 37 students and 4 teachers. Fourteen nationalities were represented in the student body. It was clear that God had done this!

Each year, BCA has grown. Teachers and students come and go but the presence and power of God remains. BCA has had teachers from all over the U.S., from Japan, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Belize. The first high school graduation was a real landmark in June 1998. There were 10 graduates - eight of which are in colleges in the U.S.

Dental Clinics have continued to be a significant part of the work God is doing through Belize Christian Ministries. God has provided equipment for doing preventative and restorative care in remote villages. God uses this ministry to meet physical needs of the poor of the nations of Belize and Guatemala and to bring us in contact with believers who need encouragement and unbelievers who need to know the Lord.

In March 1998, the papers for the new property were signed - after years of praying for that piece of land that God had shown them in 1990! BCA relocated to new property the summer of 1999. The temporary wooden buildings were moved to the new sight and are now nestled on the beautiful, spacious twenty five acres. Construction on the first permanent building, a science lab, will begin soon. The lab is being designed, and we’re praying for funds to have it ready by the 2002/2003 school year. A development plan for the complete campus has been established, and in God’s perfect timing, it will become a reality.

God has shown His power and His faithfulness over and over. May He be glorified through this ministry.
